Bringing Back the Village

Bringing Back the Village

What if, instead of being so quick to call out the parenting choices we don’t agree with (and we KNOW there are plenty!), we try to bring back the Village?  What if we say, “I don’t agree with your choice to leave your child in the car/let them walk by themselves/stay home alone while you’re at work, but I WILL do my best to help your child remain safe on my watch.”?  After all, aren’t we all really on the same team?
Most mornings, we all need to be out of the house by 7:15.  Many  mornings I am solo while my husband is already at work. That means I need to get 2 kids to 2 places and myself to work by 7:45. (serious kudos to parents who do this single handedly 5 days a week).  I feel like I’ve conquered a marathon by the time I pull into the parking lot at my work!
For a long time now I have wanted to go on a nice family vacation, an actual destination. I have wanted to share with my son the kind of vacation I had with my family when I was his...
Boy vs Girl.  First Child vs Second Child.   Brown eyes vs Blue Eyes. Brown Hair vs Blonde Hair.   These are just some of the differences in my two children.  Same mom. Same dad. Same house. Same structure. But good...
Happy Spring! I don’t know about you, but once it’s above 48 degrees consistently, I am craving to be outside as much as I can. Seriously. I have professional rain gear that proves my love for the outdoors, no...
Because of seeing all the memes coming up, jokes about it and the fact that Netflix kept putting it up when I signed in, I finally jumped on the bandwagon of watching Marie Kondo. I had absolutely no idea...

Teaching Patience

Yes, learning that I was the one who needed more patience was an eye-opener for me. I needed to do exactly what I want my son to do: wait nicely. Patience is not a novel concept to any of us as parents, but yet it seems we so rarely give the patience back to our children. Ultimately, I realized that I was the one who has to work on patience...
As moms, we all have an idea of what the “perfect” mom is like. A few months back there was a YouTube video floating around about different types of perfect moms. There is the PTA Mom, the Parenting Expert...
With three young children, it already feels like we have SO many things in our house for them to play with. Books, toys, stuffed animals, Legos, play kitchen, ride on toys, you name it. While I know play is so important, I get overwhelmed seeing the amount of toys we have. Especially since they are usually ALL over the living room (kitchen, bedrooms, etc.). I think my kids get overwhelmed with all the stuff some days too. While I do try to do a toy rotation at times, it never happens as often as I would like.
My niece is pregnant with her first baby at the same time as I am pregnant with my fourth. How fun is that?! This is my third pregnancy, and I still feel completely surprised sometimes at the things that...
