Nonprofit Spotlight: Family Services

0

For more than 120 years, Family Services has been here to Protect, Heal, and Care for people in Northeast Wisconsin. We are a nonprofit human service agency providing mental health support, prevention, intervention, and advocacy services to assist all with managing challenges and transitions in their lives. Our vision is to build communities of thriving children, strong families, and healthy individuals. We proudly serve more than 25,000 children, families, and individuals right here in Northeast Wisconsin.

Our family programming builds strong and healthy families by providing education, resources, and support to parents and caregivers. Nurturing positive relationships and promoting healthy communication helps reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect while supporting families in reaching their full potential.

McKayla* is a former client of our Welcome Baby program. She had just given birth to her first child, a beautiful boy named Michael* While she and her husband, Alex*, were thrilled to begin their family, they were also feeling a bit overwhelmed and uneasy about taking home and caring for their new baby. Before they left the hospital, they were introduced to Lindsay, a Family Resource Specialist with the Family Service Welcome Baby program. Lindsay shared a wealth of knowledge on nutrition, infant development, safe sleep, postpartum depression, and more.

Though McKayla and Alex felt more prepared leaving the hospital, they were relieved to know Lindsay would be available to provide ongoing support and education to them as needed. Through in-home visits, Lindsay provided guidance on how to nurture and care for their baby and eventually toddler, strengthening their confidence and parenting skills.

Lindsay also connected McKayla and Alex to a variety of community resources including parenting classes and childcare services. When Alex was temporarily laid-off from his job, Lindsay connected them to additional resources that would assist with food and other essentials.

By age 5, Michael was well-prepared and ready to begin kindergarten. This is just one of our many programs that work to support families in the community.

Family Services prides itself on helping people through their toughest days, but we can’t do this alone. We are grateful to be a part of a diverse network of nonprofit organizations, dedicated funding partners, and a generous community.

TOGETHER we will continue to Protect, Heal, and Care for Northeast Wisconsin!
