Parenting Wisdom

Here are three “steps” that I use to make sure there is money left at the end of the month, rather than the other way around.  

Can I get an Amen?  I mean as moms we do it all! Right?!  When we get ready to go on a vacation the standing joke at our house is that my husband just has to show up with his clothes. All other details are thought of.  And this doesn’t just apply to special events like trips, but day-to-day life too. Moms’ brains are constantly thinking, worrying, planning and so are our bodies. Our job is never done, many times thankless, and therefore, I can say, “I do it all.” And I’m lying.

It is amazing how much power one term, SAHM, had over me. I had become my own four-letter word.

One of my responsibilities as a mom is to not take those experiences away from my children by helping them too much. I have a laid back and fun-loving personality. Conflict is my worst enemy. I love my children and don't want them to think of me as a mean mom. And, I definitely don't want to feel like a mean mom. But sometimes being perceived as a “mean mom” when I am teaching a lesson is necessary. My primary goal as a parent isn't to raise happy children. It is teach them what skills they will need as adults.

Parenting is hard and requires a sense of humor.  It also doesn’t hurt to ask for a little divine intervention once in a while.  Thus, we pray as a family before dinner, and the adorable prayers of my twin three-year-olds are both entertaining and impressive. 

I'll admit it, the news depresses me. Terrorist attacks, random shootings, two women recently murdered in quiet little Bellevue. How do you raise kids in such a violent and cruel world?
