Football is such an important part of Green Bay culture.  Future for Football and the National Football Foundation know the impact and skills kids learn through playing football and have partnered with us to highlight Max Meylor, Green Bay Blizzard Quarterback.

This week (at the time of the interview) Max, who grew up in Mt. Horeb, WI, will be playing in Green Bay’s first Eastern Conference Championship after a historic 13-3 season.  The Green Bay Blizzard is part of the Indoor Football League competing against 18 other teams from across the country.

Max, how did you get started playing football?

I started playing football around 3rd grade. I decided to play a season of flag football before tackle football. I was a big Green Bay Packer fan and wanted to play the sport they were playing!

What do you love about Green Bay?

Green Bay is a small-big town and I love it. I also love how much the people love football!

What is your favorite thing about playing football?

My favorite thing about playing football is that it’s the ultimate team sport. It takes everyone involved to succeed and it’s never about one player… always the team.

What skills did you learn from football that has helped you get to the professional level?

I learned many of skills but a few that come to mind quickly are teamwork, discipline and communication. It takes a team to win. It takes discipline to stay the course and to continue to improve.  Lastly, it takes communication to grow and to make sure everyone is on the same page.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishments?

I would say my greatest accomplishment is that I never gave up. It took me 5 years to get my first full season off NCAA football.  A lot of hard work, discipline and dedication was put in and it finally paid off.

What would you tell kids just starting to be interested in football?

You will never regret playing football! Everything I have learned about life came from football including many life lessons. Also, you’ll meet many new people who will become your closest friends.

The Green Bay Blizzard have certainly made football a family affair.  Our family loves attending games, getting to go on the field during the 5th quarter (after the game) and meet all the players, especially Max Meylor. We love all the games and activities they play inbetween plays, giving high fives to Bruiser (the Blizzard’s mascot), and the giveaways they throw into the crowd (this year all the kids fought over the donuts!).

So, check out the Green Bay Blizzard and get to a game.  Also, if your kids are interested in playing football, Future for Football has you covered.  Check out their League Finder, which has all the information on touch, flag and tackle leagues near you.
