Did you know Green Bay offers a few free storytimes and activities for young children? I have recently discovered there were even more than I knew about! I think many of us moms can begin to feel a bit stir crazy, especially in the “somewhat-warm-but-not-quite-warm-enough-to-play-outside-without-getting-full-of-slush weather” that is our current state. So, having a nice, FREE place to go to that is engaging for our children is super fun and can be a life-saver! Please read on to find a list of some free activity/storytimes for children in our area.

1. Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary

Every Monday of each month is a free “animal storytime” for children ages 3-5. They will read a story and have a variety of activities. It is required to stay with your child(ren) for this storytime. A bonus of attending this one is that you can check out the many other things Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary has to offer, including free animal exhibits that are open daily – indoors and out, hiking trails, a nature center to explore (which even has a huge slide!)  More info: Bay Beach Events

2. Various Green Bay Area Schools

This is for children four and under with an adult. They have a variety of different times and schools to choose from each week. The teachers will read stories and they also provide crafts, songs, and other activities that focus on early literacy. It is free! More info: GBAPS Story Time

3. School House

School House is a large education store serving parents and teachers in our area. It is near the Bay Park Square mall in Green Bay. They have numerous storytimes and activity times each week that are also free! More info here: School House Events

4. Brown County Libraries

This is our favorite! All of the BCL branches offer storytimes for little ones. You can find a list of all of the storytimes here: Brown County Library Storytime The libraries do an absolutely wonderful job at these storytimes. They usually also have at least one “special” storytime a month in which there is a craft and a snack…and it’s all free! Another bonus, you can check out books with a library card (also free!).

These last two are also lots of fun, but do have a fee:

5. National Railroad Museum

You can either go to this storytime by buying a daily admission ticket or pay $5 per parent with up to 2 children. This storytime lasts 30-40 minutes and the books will be “railroad-themed.” There is often also finger plays, songs, a craft, and other fun games. National Railroad Storytime

6. Green Bay Children’s Museum

The children’s museum has a variety of weekly programs, check out the details at the link below. To participate in the programs, you do need to pay the general museum admission, which is $8 per person (free for under 15 months.) GB Children’s Museum Storytime

I hope this list helps you and your little ones to get out of the house during these tough end of winter/spring months. Summer will be on its way before we know it!
