Don’t Let Winter Weather Stop You From Running These Area Races!

2

Earlier than expected, winter weather is here–and likely to stay. Being stuck inside with kids, finding ways to exercise, and making time for oneself, are hard to come by as a mom. Complaining aside, I’m going to put one foot in front of the other in an effort to embrace it. My method: running.

Why I Run — Even in the cold-weather

Like so many financially strapped students, I started running in college when paying for a gym membership was unaffordable. My options were limited and running was essentially free–other than buying some good shoes.

At first, I hated it. It wasn’t until a friend encouraged me to work for something that running became a great resource to decompress from my day. That was when I entered my first cold-weather race. That icy Sunday I ran my first 5k. Cheeks rosy, fingers numb, I finished the race. The adrenaline of that 5k gave me a purpose and a love for running.

Which is why, every year when the trees are bare and snows starts to hit the ground, I look for some cold weather races in the area to continue my fitness goals. Below are local races from November through March. If you are not a runner, walking is also an option. Each race offers a little something for everyone.

  1. Awesome article Amanda. I am new to running but excited to run this winter. Green Bay Parks and Recreation has a race on January 10th called Frenzy on the Fox. You get a winter beanie for that one.
