Making it through those first couple years made Steve and I feel like we were superheroes. It was winter 2011, and our twins, Lily and Aubrey, had just turned 4 years old at the end of January. One night, as I was drying Lily off from her bath, I noticed that her knee was bulging. I had her stand up, back away from me, and as I sat there, 5 months pregnant with our 3rd child, I stared at my daughter’s knee, which was the size of a softball.
Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom I worked in a Preventive Cardiology clinic where day in and day out I helped patients set goals to better their own health. The typical method I used when helping people set goals was to make a S.M.A.R.T goal. To explain this further, here is the product of taking my resolution and making it into a S.M.A.R.T. goal:
At Festival Foods, we want to help you make small changes that lead to healthy habits that lead to a better, healthier life. And we want to do it in a way that is approachable, friendly and manageable.
In an attempt to become more present in my life and to bring consciousness to my daily cell phone use, I limited my use to only the times that my children were sleeping or out of house. For an entire week my phone remained out of sight during family time. The results of my experiment served as a much needed reality check.
I'm going to be very real with you all for a second: I am a preservative craving, junk food eating, non organic-using, toxin wearing kind of girl. And I do it all without an ounce of guilt... The way in which I willingly abuse my temple reeks of hypocrisy when it comes to making decisions for my children. Everything from cloth diapering and reusable wipes to organic home-made baby foods....you name it, if it's better for my kids, I've done it. They depend on me to do what I can to keep them safe and healthy. Even with my efforts, we have battled our fair share of sickness. And in keeping with the "only the best for my babies" theme, choosing which medicines to give them was an easy decision.
"Eat your broccoli... eat your peppers... eat your banana..."  The struggle to get kids to eat their fruits and vegetables (F & V) is constant.  We recently asked our pediatrician to get in the battle, asking him to very clearly point out how important fruits and vegetables are to eat.  While his recommendation helped, ultimately it is still up to me and my husband to get our four year old, Elsie, to eat well.  So, I have enlisted some of my favorite kitchen gadgets to make F & V more appealing.

We all need a brief “break” from being a mom to help us remember who we are so we can continue to love ourselves and then love our families. While it’s easier to have a break away from home, here are some things I have been trying to add into my life on a regular basis in an attempt to keep my sanity household running smoothly.
I will let you in on a little secret.  I am the chaotic mom in this story.  Between work, school, baseball, golf lessons, swimming lessons and a traveling husband, life is chaotic.  As strange as it may sound, Costco understands my chaos and helps make life easier.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are thrilled to be partnering with Ink to the People to offer our readers an opportunity to join us and more than a dozen City Moms Blog Sister Sites across the country in raising funds for Look Good Feel Better.  This organization teaches beauty techniques to people with cancer, helping them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program includes lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetic techniques, and wigs and turbans.  The goal is to help people find some normalcy in a life that has ceased to be normal.

Keeping Halloween Safe What’s the first thing you think about when you think Halloween? Pumpkins? Costumes? Trick-or-Treating? Candy? What if your child couldn’t eat candy? That would take away a HUGE chunk of Halloween. This was the problem Becky Basalone, a mom...
